Your Stargazing Journey Begins Here
Astronomy Outreach
Astronomy outreach is about sharing the wonders of the Universe with communities of all ages and backgrounds. Through public stargazing events, school visits, hands-on demonstrations, and presentations, outreach opens doors to curiosity, learning, and inspiration. Whether under city lights or dark skies, these activities connect people to the cosmos and help foster a lifelong interest in science and exploration.
For me, outreach is a heartfelt commitment to sparking wonder, promoting STEM education, and bringing the night sky closer to everyone. Explore the types of outreach I do, see impact statistics, learn about different roles, and find out how you can get involved.
Types of Outreach
Astronomy outreach takes many forms, each offering unique opportunities to share the wonders of the night sky:
- Public Star Parties: Community events where anyone can gather to observe celestial objects through telescopes and learn from experienced astronomers.
- Private Star Parties: Smaller, invitation-only gatherings tailored for specific groups such as schools, clubs, or special interest organizations.
- School STEM Nights: Educational sessions held at schools featuring hands-on activities, presentations, and telescope viewing to inspire students in science, technology, engineering, and math.
- Sidewalk Astronomy: Informal telescope viewing events held in urban or public spaces, inviting passersby to experience the cosmos up close.
- Themed Events: Special outreach programs centered around celestial events like eclipses, meteor showers, or planetary oppositions, often with educational talks and demonstrations.
- Community Presentations: Talks and workshops delivered to public groups, libraries, or clubs to share astronomy knowledge and promote scientific curiosity.
- Hands-On Workshops: Interactive sessions where participants learn astronomy concepts through activities such as building models, using telescopes, or conducting experiments.
Each type plays a vital role in sparking curiosity, making astronomy accessible, and fostering a deeper connection between people and the Universe.

Outreach Roles
Throughout my journey as an astronomy educator, I’ve had the privilege of serving in several impactful roles, including:
- NASA Solar System Ambassador: Since 2014, I have been part of this national volunteer program, sharing the latest NASA discoveries and engaging with the community to inspire interest in space exploration. This role gives me access to exclusive resources and opportunities to enrich my outreach.
- Brazos Valley Astronomy Club Outreach Coordinator: For eight years, I coordinated and expanded the club’s public outreach efforts, organizing star parties, school visits, and community events. This leadership experience helped grow the club’s impact and foster a stronger local stargazing community.
- Community Educator and Author: Beyond formal roles, I write children’s books and develop educational content that brings astronomy to younger audiences, helping to nurture curiosity from an early age.
Each role has shaped my ability to connect with diverse audiences and deepen my commitment to making astronomy accessible and inspiring.
